My newest project - The Voice Over People.

HA!

Well, my very UNsuccessful attempt to draw Naomi Robson's attention to the fraud that is, "A Current Affair" failed dismally. "Today Tonight" unfortunately never sent those hard hitting reporters out to the 'evil ones'.
In fact, she never even got back to me.

Ok, for the people reading this from outside of Australia, A Current Affair and Today Tonight are the typically lame-arse, prime-time, 'hard hitting', network, 'current affairs' programs. Both are, allegedly (i think i should say that so I don't get a lawyer's letter - like they read my li'l blog anyway), frauds.

So anyway, I was on the train the other day, wondering to myself just what my next project was gonna be.
And it came to me with a voice, a voice telling me, so politely, that the next station was Mont Albert. Not thinking explicitly at that stage that this was it, my new project, it did occurred to me however, that the people on Commuter service voice-overs, are never known.
Ever.

They are the voices, who no matter what, good day or bad, without judging any of us, tell us all we need to know about the service we are using.
In Melbourne here, that is 2.5 million of us each week.
2.5 million people, whose days are bettered by the voice over people. The nameless, faceless voice over people we all know, love and trust.

So I decided.
My new Project, was to be to raise the profile of these individuals, to put names and faces to these people, and to let the public, the average citizen of Melbourne, show their appreciation for the Voice Over People.
To allow the Voice Over People their chance to bask in the glory their work deserves. To get the free Donuts when recognised. To get free Fish'nChips, or that extra Cheese Roll thrown in the bag at the Hot Bread shop

Now, Kylie. Everyone knows Kylie right? Do we appreciate her work? Does her work positively influence my everyday as much as the Voice Over People? How about Robbie Williams? Yet the Voice Over People sit in that recording studio too, and do take after take after take until the 'perfect' take is recorded. Until every nuance of their own voice and personality is ironed out, and that perfect, clear, unsentimental Voice Over is recorded, for posterity, and our convenience. Take after take after take until every inflection, on every syllable is perfect. Take after take after take until ever vowel is down pat. And do they tour the world with massive entourages like Kylie or Robbie? Do they throw temper tantrums and leave the studio, making front pages of the next days' 'papers ala the Gallagher brothers?

NO!

And from us; the appreciation, the recognition? Where is it?

I've decided, and even as I sit here and write this out my resolve is strengthening, that I am going to get the Voice Over People the recognition and praise they deserve.

Have you ever stopped to think that maybe those voice over people don't WANT to be known; that perhaps they LIKE their anonymity?

I remember reading an interview with the voice of Museum Station (back when it was Museum Station) that spoke of that.

I love yourt irony...think about what you just said.

And yes I have thought of that. But I'm attempting to contact them anyhow, mainly because I WANT to speak to them abour these sorts of things.
